Verse 3 of 6

Living Against the Truth Is Walking Blind

ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਬੋਲੈ ਕੂੜੁ ॥
saachee dargeh bolai koorh.
In the True Court, they lie;
ਸਿਰੁ ਹਾਥ ਪਛੋੜੈ ਅੰਧਾ ਮੂੜੁ ॥੨॥
sir haath pachhorhay anDhaa moorh. ||2||
the blind fools strike their own heads with their own hands. ||2||

In plain words

When a person speaks lies even where only truth belongs, they end up hurting mostly themselves.

Living against the truth is like walking blindly — you keep bumping into the very trouble you made.

Living against the truth is like walking blind — you keep bumping into the trouble you made.
The deeper layer

Living against the truth is like walking blind. You keep bumping into the trouble you made.

Saachee dargeh bolai koorh — in the True Court, they speak lies. Dargeh is a court, the place where truth is weighed. Koorh means falsehood. The verse pictures the liar striking their own head with their own hands. It points to a plain truth: dishonesty bounces back on the one who is dishonest.

The person is called anDhaa moorh, blind and foolish. Moorh is not a cruel label. It describes someone who cannot see clearly yet. Think of one fib that needs a second fib to cover it, and then a third. Living against the truth means stumbling, because you have lost your way.

A Question to Sit With

Have you noticed how one lie usually forces you to trip over more of them?
