In plain words

Those who give their hearts to the One reach the truest, fullest way of being alive.

And simply being near such people lights something up inside you — a quiet brightening of the soul.

Some people are so truly alive that just being near them lights something up in you.
The deeper layer

People who give their lives to the One are the ones who are truly alive, and just being near them lights you up.

Jeevan padvee har kay daas — the highest kind of life belongs to har kay daas, those devoted to the One. Jeevan padvee means the rank of true life. It is a bold claim. Such people are truly alive, not just breathing.

There is something catching about it. Jin mili-aa aatam pargaas — meeting them, the soul lights up. Aatam is the soul, and pargaas is light. Think of one player on a team whose energy wakes everyone else up. Being near someone truly awake wakes something in you too. Goodness spreads by being close.

In this short shabad, the rahaa-o, the "pause" line at the center, comes right after this opening verse.

A Question to Sit With

Who do you know that seems fully, quietly alive — and how do you feel after being around them?
