Says Nanak, one whose destiny is perfect,
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਸੋਹਾਗੁ ॥੨॥੧੦੬॥
har har naam asthir sohaag. ||2||106||
meditates on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, the Everlasting Husband. ||2||106||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The one whose good fortune is whole and complete

keeps the Name of the One close and alive. The Name is a lasting union, a bond that does not break.

The union with the One is a bond that lasts and does not break.
The deeper layer

Being joined with the One is a bond that never breaks.

Pooray bhaag means a whole and complete good fortune. The verse speaks of a person whose fortune is complete. You can think of it as a life that has become ready to receive the Name.

Then comes a lovely picture: asthir sohaag. Sohaag is the joy of being joined in love, like a happy marriage. Asthir means steady and lasting. In many shabads the soul is pictured as a bride and the One as the beloved. Here that joining is called everlasting.

Think of the people who love you most. Even on a bad day, you still belong to each other. The bond with the One is like that, only it never ends.

A Question to Sit With

What is a bond in your life that feels like it will last no matter what?
