Verse 2 of 3

Align With the One and What You Long For Is Met

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਈ ॥
jo jo chitvai daas har maa-ee.
Whatever the Lord's slave wishes, O mother,
ਸੋ ਸੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਈ ॥੧॥
so so kartaa aap karaa-ee. ||1||
the Creator Himself causes that to be done. ||1||

In plain words

Whatever the one who trusts the One turns their heart toward, dear mother, the Maker sees to it and brings it about.

The shabad's assurance: what a heart aligned with the One truly longs for is answered.
The deeper layer

When your heart lines up with the One, what you truly long for is answered.

Jo jo chitvai daas har maa-ee — whatever the One's servant wishes for, O mother. So so kartaa aap karaa-ee — the Creator Himself makes that happen. Maa-ee, "O mother," is a tender way to speak, like sharing good news with someone you love.

This is not magic wish-granting. The deeper sense is this. A heart in tune with the One finds its true wishes answered. That is because what it wants and Hukam, the flow of existence, have come to agree. It is like two friends singing the same song: when you are in tune, you don't have to fight for the note. It is an inner assurance, not a promise about getting particular things.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you long for that feels right and good deep down?
