Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The power of the One is everywhere and complete, dear ones — nothing missing, nothing lacking. Because of that, no ache or trouble can truly overwhelm me.
The One's power is whole and everywhere, so no trouble has to overwhelm you.
This shabad begins a new part called Gauree Chaytee, a special style within Raag Gauree, the musical mood. It opens with Ik Onkar, "there is One," and then comes the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.
Raam ko bal pooran bhaa-ee — the One's power is pooran, whole and complete, dear friends. From that wholeness comes the sure feeling of the next line. Taa tay baritha na bi-aapai kaa-ee — so no pain can take hold of me.
This does not deny that hard things happen. It is the verse's trust that a life rooted in a complete power need not be swept away. It is like a tree with deep roots in a storm. The branches toss about, but the tree stays standing.
What helps you feel that a hard thing, even a real one, won't be able to swallow you up?
