In plain words

O dear Lord of all, my truest friend — please come and stay right here with me, close by, all the time.

The deepest prayer can be simply: please stay close to me.
The deeper layer

This opens Gauree Bairaagan and holds the mehl header, the Ik Onkar invocation, and the Rahao. Bairaagan is a raag traditionally associated with longing — the ache of missing the beloved. Da-y gusaa-ee meetulaa — "kind Lord of the world, my dear little friend" — the diminutive meetulaa is deeply affectionate. Toon sang hamaarai baas — "you, dwell with me." The whole shabad is a tender request to be kept company, sung from the ache of longing.

A Question to Sit With

Who do you most wish would just stay close to you, and why?
