Missing Someone Shows How Much They Mean

ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਘਰੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਨਾ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਰਹਣਾ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
tujh bin gharee na jeevnaa Dharig rahnaa sansaar.
Without You, I cannot live, even for an instant, and my life in this world is cursed.
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਿਆ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿ ਜੀ ॥੧॥
jee-a paraan sukh-daati-aa nimakh nimakh balihaar jee. ||1||
O Breath of Life of the soul, O Giver of peace, each and every instant I am a sacrifice to You. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Without You, I can't feel truly alive even for a moment; a life spent apart from You feels empty and lost. O Breath of my very life, Giver of peace, in every passing instant I would give anything for You.

Missing someone so much shows just how much they mean to you.
The deeper layer

Tujh bin gharee na jeevnaa — without you, no living even for an hour — the ache of bairaag. Dharig rahnaa literally calls the life apart "cursed"; per the guidelines we soften to "empty and lost," keeping the longing without the harsh word. Jee-a praan sukh-daati-aa — the One is the very breath of life and giver of peace. Nimakh nimakh balihaar — instant by instant, "I am a sacrifice," rendered as "I would give anything."

A Question to Sit With

Has missing someone ever shown you how much they truly matter to you?
