In plain words

A loving longing to meet the One has woken up in my heart. I bow low and offer my quiet prayer: if only I could be lucky enough to meet a true, good soul who could lead me toward the One.

When a real longing to know the One wakes up, you start hoping for someone good to guide you.
The deeper layer

This one is about a heart that has started to long for the One.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Parabh milbay ka-o pareet man laagee — a loving wish to meet the One has taken hold of my heart. It is like missing someone you love who lives far away. You keep thinking of them.

Paa-ay laga-o mohi kara-o bayntee — I bow at the feet and offer my prayer. Bowing is a sign of humility and love.

The prayer is a wish to meet a sant, a true and good person, badbhaagee, by great good luck. Such a person can show the way.

The whole shabad is about this longing to be led toward the One. It is also about what a person will gladly give up to follow.

A Question to Sit With

Who has helped guide you toward something good and true that you couldn't have found alone?
