How do I actually meet the One who holds the whole universe — the source and keeper of everything?
Is there a wise friend somewhere, someone whose presence brings a deep, settled peace, who could point me to the path and show me the way?
The seeker asks the real question: how do I actually meet the One?
The shabad opens with a short blessing line. Ik-onkaar satgur parsaad — One Creator, known by the grace of the True Guru. It also names its musical mood, Raag Gauree Poorbee.
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line and the center of the shabad. Kin biDh milai gusaa-ee mayray raam raa-ay — by what way can I meet the Master of the universe, my King? The seeker does not want more facts. The seeker wants a way.
So the hope turns to a person. Ko-ee aisaa sant sahj sukh-daata — is there a sant, a wise and holy friend, who gives sahj? Sahj is a natural, easy peace. Think of trying to find a new friend's house. A map helps, but someone who has been there can walk you to the door.
The whole shabad answers this question. At the very end, it comes back to it in a rare second pause line.
When you truly want to learn something, do you look for the answer, or for a person who can show you the way?
