I have found a closeness I never had before — a warm, easy nearness to the One.
It came as a gift of kindness: the Beloved was gentle with me, and through the Teacher I was shown the way to it.
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. It names a gift: a new closeness with the One.
Aiso parcha-o paa-i-o — I have found such closeness. Parcha-o is the warm trust you feel with someone you now know well. Think of a new classmate who slowly becomes your best friend. One day you notice you can sit together in silence, and it feels easy.
Guru Arjan is careful to say how this closeness came. Karee kirpaa da-i-aal beethulay — the kind Beloved gave grace. Beethul is a loving name for the One. And satgur mujheh bataa-i-o — the true Teacher showed me the way.
Closeness to the One is received as a gift. It is never grabbed. The rest of the shabad tells what this new closeness shows.
Has a friendship ever grown close in a way you couldn't force — it simply deepened over time?
