Verse 5 of 6

A Caring Keeper Watches; Loosen Your Grip

ਅਨਿਕ ਕੋਠਰੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਰੀਆ ਆਪਿ ਹੋਆ ਰਖਵਾਰਾ ॥
anik kothree bahut bhaat karee-aa aap ho-aa rakhvaaraa.
The Lord has created the various chambers of assorted descriptions, and He Himself protects them.
ਜੈਸੇ ਮਹਲਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਤੈਸੈ ਰਹਨਾ ਕਿਆ ਇਹੁ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
jaisay mahal raakhai taisai rahnaa ki-aa ih karai bichaaraa. ||4||
As is that vessel in which the Lord places the soul, so does it dwell. What can this poor being do? ||4||

In plain words

The One has made countless rooms of every kind, and is Himself the keeper watching over them all.

Whatever room the One keeps you in, that is where you live for now — so there is no need for the small self to fret and strain.

Since a caring keeper is watching over your life, you can loosen your grip on controlling everything.
The deeper layer

Anik kothree bahut bhaat karee-aa — countless 'chambers' (bodies, lives, circumstances) fashioned, with the One as rakhvaaraa, the protector. Jaisay mahal raakhai taisai rahnaa — you dwell as the One places you. The closing ki-aa ih karai bichaaraa — 'what can this poor being do?' — is not despair but release from anxious control: since a loving keeper is watching over every room, the small self can stop straining to manage everything. It flows straight from the opening question — with the Protector near, fear and fretting both lose their footing.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing you worry about controlling that might be okay to trust and let rest?
