In plain words

I would gladly wash the Teacher's feet and serve with all my heart — I'd give myself for that a hundred thousand times over.

By that grace I have crossed the wide, rough sea of the world, and I am joined again with my Beloved.

Wholehearted love and humble service are the way across life's roughest waters.
The deeper layer

Charan pakhaar kara-o gur sayvaa — washing the Teacher's feet and serving: an image of wholehearted, humble devotion, baar jaa-o lakh baree-aa, 'a hundred thousand times over.' Jih parsaad ih bha-ojal tari-aa — 'by whose grace I crossed the bhavjal,' the vast, difficult world-ocean. The shabad ends where it began, in love: pari-a sang miree-aa — united with the Beloved. The soul that opened crying 'without You, who is mine?' now closes joined to that very One. The circle of longing and reunion is complete.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone you'd do almost anything for — and what does that kind of love feel like?
