My doubt and fear were cut clean away, and I was made whole and pure, once the tight grip of ego finally loosened.
My worry about coming and going quieted down, the moment I found myself in the company of the wise.
Bharam bha-o kaat kee-ay nihkayval — doubt (bharam) and fear (bhau) are cut away, and the self is made nihkayval, pure and unmixed — jab tay ha-umai maaree, once haumai — ego, traditionally read as the sense of being separate — is subdued. Note ego here is something eased, not a crime punished. Janam maran ko chooko sahsaa — the anxious churn about birth and death ends, and this happens saadhsangat darsaaree, by beholding the One in the company of the wise. The cure for the deepest fear is again relational: good company where the One becomes visible.
When are you most free of worry — what settings or people make your fear quietly let go?
