In plain words

Please hear my prayer, You who hold my very life, Beloved, ocean of kindness and mercy.

Keep me safe, my Parent, my God; I am like a child with no one else — so please cherish me and hold me close.

It's safe to ask, like a trusting child, to be held and kept close.
The deeper layer

It is safe to ask, like a child, to be held.

Bin-o sunhu tum paraanpat pi-aaray — hear my prayer, Beloved, Lord of my life. Paraanpat means the one who holds my very breath. Kirpaa niDh da-i-aalaa — treasure of mercy, the kind one.

Then comes a tender cry, like a child calling a parent: raakh layho pitaa parabh mayray — keep me safe, my Father, my God. Anaathah kar partipaalaa — cherish the one who has no other support. Anaath means someone with no one to protect them. Here it is a child's simple, trusting need. Think of a small child lifting their arms to be picked up. They know someone loving will hold them.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone you can always turn to, knowing they'll look after you no matter what?
