If I can sit at their feet, I truly come alive; near those good people, I feel lit up from inside.
Let my heart become the humble dust at their feet — and, God, please be kind enough to let it be so.
Taa kai charan para-o taa jeevaa — 'falling at their feet, I live' — nearness to the God-loving is life itself; jan kai sang nihaalaa — in their company, radiant with joy (nihaal). The wish: bhagtan kee rayn ho-ay man mayraa — 'let my mind become the dust of the devotees' feet.' Again the empty-handed humility motif — not self-lowering out of shame, but the glad smallness of wanting only closeness to goodness. And it closes as a prayer for grace: hohu parabhoo kirpaalaa — even this closeness is something the One must gift.
When you're around someone genuinely good, do you feel bigger or smaller — and which feels better?
