Sikhism·Raag Gauree·Shabad 198
Verse 4 of 5

Between the One and the Saint, No Gap at All

raam sant meh bhayd kichh naahee ayk jan ka-ee meh laakh karoree.
Between the Lord and His Saint, there is no difference at all. Among hundreds of thousands and millions, there is scarcely one humble being.
jaa kai hee-ai pargat parabh ho-aa an-din keertan rasan ramoree. ||3||
Those whose hearts are illuminated by God, sing the Kirtan of His Praises night and day with their tongues. ||3||

In plain words

Between the One and those who truly love the One, there is no gap at all — even if among many, many people only a few come to live this way.

In whoever's heart the One shines clearly, day and night their words turn to praise and joyful song.

Of one who truly loves the One, this verse says there is no gap at all — a life that reflects the One clearly.
The deeper layer

Someone who truly loves the One can reflect the One so clearly that there seems to be no gap at all.

Raam sant meh bhayd kichh naahee — between the One and the sant, the saint, there is no difference at all. This is loving praise of how closely such a person is joined with the One. It is not a fixed definition. An earlier Gauree shabad spoke of this same no-difference, bhayd naahee.

Think of a still lake at night. It holds the moon so clearly that you see the moon in it.

Ayk jan ka-ee meh laakh karoree — such a person is rare, one among many thousands. How do you know them? Jaa kai hee-ai pargat parabh ho-aa — in their heart the One has become clear to see. An-din keertan — day and night, their words turn to praise and song. What is inside spills out as song.

A Question to Sit With

Have you noticed how what fills someone's heart tends to spill out in what they talk about most?
