Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Real peace does not come from just piling up things — it comes from loving devotion to the Oneness. This human life is a priceless jewel; live it so you truly win. And you can start right now: with good company, remembering the One, even for a single instant, is already a victory.
The Pause frames the whole shabad: sukh naahee ray har bhagat binaa — there is no lasting peace without loving devotion (bhagti). Then it hands us the reason this matters — jeet janam ih ratan amolak: this human life is a "priceless jewel," not to be squandered. And the door is low and near: even one instant (ik khinaa) of remembrance in the saadh sangat (good company) begins the win. The verses that follow will show the contrast — all the glittering things that cannot come with you.
If your life were a priceless jewel, what would you most want to spend it on?
