Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
When we get tangled up in clinging to things, we start to imagine the Oneness is somewhere far off, out of reach. But that is only the tangle talking. The truth is the opposite: it is always present, always right here, closer than close.
Mohi mohi-aa jaanai door hai — attachment (moh) creates the illusion of distance; the more we cling to passing things, the farther the Oneness seems. The shabad's whole descent through borrowed wealth and fading bodies lands here, and then flips: kaho naanak sadaa hadoor hai — "ever-present." The distance was never real; it was the fog of clinging. Let the fog thin, and what was always here becomes obvious.
When have you looked all over for something that was in your hand the whole time?
