Step Off the Circling and Rest in the Real

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੋਨਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ॥
lakh cha-oraaseeh jon fireh.
People wander through 8.4 million incarnations.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਲੋਕ ਨਹੀ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ॥੩॥
gobind lok nahee janam mareh. ||3||
God's people are not subject to birth and death. ||3||

In plain words

Life can feel like it keeps circling round and round, on and on, through countless shapes and forms. But those who belong to the Oneness step out of the endless circling. They come to rest — no longer spun by the wheel of coming and going.

You can step off the endless circling and come to rest in what is real.
The deeper layer

Life can feel like going round and round, but the One's people get to step off and rest.

Lakh cha-oraaseeh jon fireh — people wander through 8.4 million jon, or life-forms. This is an old Indian idea. The soul goes round and round through birth and death. That wheel is called samsara.

Gobind lok nahee janam mareh — the people of Gobind, the One, are not caught in birth and death. They step off the wheel of restless becoming.

For a child, it can be a simple picture. Think of a spinning ride at the fair that never stops. At last it slows, and you step onto solid ground. That is the difference between being spun around forever and coming to rest in what is real.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to finally stop spinning and just rest?
