A Steady Inner Ground Frees You From Worry

ਸਗਲ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਭੈ ਭੀਤ ਚੀਨ ॥
sagal asthaan bhai bheet cheen.
All places are filled with fear - know this well.
ਰਾਮ ਸੇਵਕ ਭੈ ਰਹਤ ਕੀਨ ॥੨॥
raam sayvak bhai rahat keen. ||2||
Only the Lord's servants are free of fear. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

There is a low hum of worry running through so many places in the world; you can feel it if you pay attention. But those who truly serve the Oneness live free of that hum. Their inner ground is steady, so the fear that ripples through everything else does not shake them.

The world hums with worry; a steady inner ground lets you live free of it.
The deeper layer

Worry runs through the whole world, but the One's servant can live free of it.

Sagal asthaan bhai bheet cheen — know that every place is walled around with fear. The line is honest. Fear really is everywhere. You can feel a low hum of worry in so many places, if you pay attention.

Then comes the lift. Raam sayvak bhai rahat keen — the One's servant is made bhai-rahat, free of fear.

This is a great promise in Gurbani. It does not promise a world with no trouble. It promises a steady ground inside that trouble cannot shake. Think of a house with deep roots in the ground. The wind still blows, but the house stands.

A Question to Sit With

What makes you feel steady even when everyone around you seems worried?
