and turn his mind away from this sweet Maya? ||1||Pause||

In plain words

Is there anyone who can loosen the tight grip of the ego — that feeling of being a separate little self who must always come first — and turn the mind away from the sweet, sticky pull of shiny things? It is a real question, and the answer is yes: it can be done.

Loosening the ego's grip feels impossible — until it happens.
The deeper layer

Hai ko-ee aisaa haumai torai — "is there anyone who can break the haumai?" Haumai is the ego, the sense of being cut off and separate. Is meethee tay ih man horai — turning the mind from "this sweetness," the honeyed lure of maya. The pauri poses it as an open question precisely because it feels so hard — and the shabad's own ending will answer it, so the difficulty is set up only to be met.

A Question to Sit With

What sweet-but-sticky thing is hardest for you to turn your attention away from?
