Nanak: You are near, so very near! ||3||3||156||

In plain words

You are in the home and You are in the forest. You are in the village and in the wild open places. You are everywhere — near, so very near, closer than I ever knew.

The One you seek is not far away — it is near, so very near.
The deeper layer

This one says the One is everywhere, and very close.

The shabad ends by naming places. Garihi, the home. Ban, the forest. Gaa-o, the village. Sun, the empty wild land. Indoors and out, crowded and empty, the One fills all of it.

The last line lands on closeness, not on how big the One is: hai naanak nayr nayree — near, so very near. After calling the One everything, Guru Arjan's last word is that this everything is not far off in the sky.

Think of looking everywhere for your glasses, and they were on your head the whole time. The One is right here, as close as your own breath.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you feel most aware of something bigger than yourself — in a quiet room, or out in the wild?
