In plain words

By becoming simple and open like a child, I have found real peace. Joy and sorrow, gaining and losing, beginnings and endings, comfort and hardship — since I met the teaching, all of them rest evenly in me, and none can knock me over.

A childlike, open heart can meet joy and hardship alike without being knocked over.
The deeper layer

Baal budh — "the mind of a child": Guru Arjan makes childlike simplicity a spiritual achievement, not a weakness. The rahao names the fruit of the whole shabad — samsar, "evenness": joy and sorrow, profit and loss, birth and death met with the same steady heart. This is sahaj, the equilibrium of a soul rooted in something that outer events can't shake. It doesn't mean feeling nothing; it means not being toppled.

A Question to Sit With

What would it feel like to face a bad day and a great day with the same steady calm?
