A Heart That Trusts the Flow Meets Anything

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਤੈ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਮਨਿ ਬੁਰੋ ਨ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥
jo kichh kartai kaaran keeno man buro na laagi-o.
Whatever the Creator does, my mind is not troubled.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਸੋਇਓ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਗਿਓ ॥੩॥
saaDhsangat parsaad santan kai so-i-o man jaagi-o. ||3||
By the Grace of the Saints and the Company of the Holy, my sleeping mind has been awakened. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whatever the Creator does, for whatever reason, my heart no longer takes it badly. By the grace of good company and holy people, my sleeping heart has finally woken up.

A heart that trusts the flow of life can meet whatever comes without being thrown.
The deeper layer

A heart that trusts the flow of life can meet whatever comes.

Jo kichh kartai kaaran keeno — whatever the Creator does. Man buro na laagi-o — my mind does not take it as bad. This is deep trust in hukam, the flow of existence. It is not giving up and doing nothing. It is a settled trust in what the Creator does.

This trust is about the One's flow. It never means excusing cruelty that people do. It never means skipping sensible steps when something is truly harmful.

So-i-o man jaagi-o — the sleeping mind woke up. That waking comes as a gift through saaDhsangat, the company of good and holy people. It is like a friend gently shaking you awake so you don't miss the sunrise.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you stay steady when something happens that you didn't choose?
