In plain words

Who can help me truly understand how my own heart works? Only the Creator, the Source of all, can make it clear to me.

Even your own heart can be a mystery to you — and understanding it is a gift.
The deeper layer

This one asks a humble question: who can help me understand my own heart?

This is the rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Mo ka-o ih biDh ko samjhaavai — who can help me understand my condition? It is an honest question. The mind is a puzzle, even to itself. Think of a day when you feel grumpy and can't say why.

Kartaa ho-ay janaavai — only the Kartaa, the Creator, makes it known. This sets the frame for the whole shabad. We cannot fully build self-knowledge by our own cleverness. Understanding comes as a gift.

The verses that follow explore the mystery of the self. They look at how it wanders, how it grabs, and where it came from.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a part of yourself you don't fully understand and wish you did?
