Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One is with me inside and out, closer than my own breath, always — and yet how easily I fail to let my love settle there.
Know this: the one whose very heart is filled with the Presence is already free.
This one says the One is always close, inside and out.
Antar baahar sadaa sang parabh — inside and outside, the One is always with us. This closeness is at the heart of Gurbani. The One is nearer than we imagine, never far away.
The sad part is taa si-o nayhu na laavai — and still we do not give our love there. The Presence is right here, and we do not rest in it. Think of a grandparent sitting quietly beside you while you stare at a screen all afternoon.
Naanak mukat taahi tum maanhu jih ghat raam samaavai — Nanak says, know that they are free whose hearts are filled with the One. Mukat means free. Here freedom is not a faraway place you travel to. It is a heart already full of the One. Freedom lives right there, in that indwelling. Today a family can live this as loving remembrance of the One who is always near.
If someone you loved was right beside you all day, what would it take to actually notice they were there?
