Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
So I stay with the teacher, and sit at the teacher's feet to learn.
I give my love, and lose myself gladly in the Name.
Instruction, guidance, and even my daily nourishment — all of it becomes love.
Carried by the flow of existence, I come home to my own true inner house.
When love becomes your food, you come home to your truest self.
This verse answers the questions of the last one. The answer is the Gur, the Guru and the Guru's teaching. Gur sayvee gur laaga-o paa-ay — I serve the Guru, and sit at the Guru's feet.
Sikhi-aa deekhi-aa bhojan bhaa-o — lessons, guidance, and food all become bhaa-o, love. What a lovely picture. Love is the food the soul lives on. Think of a family dinner where the best part is not the food but being together.
Hukam sanjogee nij ghar jaa-o — carried by Hukam, the flow of existence, I go into nij ghar, my own true home inside. Guru Nanak often uses this picture. It means arriving at your own deepest ground.
What would it mean to be so at home in yourself that you didn't need to go looking elsewhere?
