The One Guards the Sweetness the Thieves Steal

ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤਸਕਰੁ ਲੇਈ ॥
ghar meh amrit taskar lay-ee.
In the house of the self is the Ambrosial Nectar, which is being stolen by the thieves.
ਨੰਨਾਕਾਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਕਰੇਈ ॥
nannaakaar na ko-ay karay-ee.
No one can say no to them.
ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਈ ॥੨॥
raakhai aap vadi-aa-ee day-ee. ||2||
He Himself protects us, and blesses us with greatness. ||2||

In plain words

Inside the house of yourself there is a sweet nectar — and thieves keep slipping in to carry it off.

On our own, we can't seem to tell them no.

But the One guards what is precious and blesses us with real greatness.

There's a sweetness inside you that inner thieves keep stealing — and the One is the guard who keeps it safe.
The deeper layer

Ghar meh amrit — the nectar within the self, the divine already inside. The taskar (thieves) are the pulls that steal our inner sweetness (the classic five: craving, anger, greed, attachment, pride) — named as forces to be seen, not sins to be flogged. The honest admission nannaakaar na ko-ay karay-ee — by ourselves we can't refuse them — sets up the relief: raakhai aap, the One protects. Grace guards what our willpower can't.

A Question to Sit With

What thoughts or moods tend to sneak in and steal your inner calm? What helps you keep it safe?
