Talking About It and Understanding Are Different

ਜਿਨਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਵਖਾਨਿਆ ॥
jin kahi-aa tin kahan vakhaani-aa.
One who speaks, merely describes speech.
ਜਿਨਿ ਬੂਝਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥
jin boojhi-aa tin sahj pachhaani-aa.
But one who understands, intuitively realizes.
ਦੇਖਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੬॥
daykh beechaar mayraa man maani-aa. ||6||
Seeing and reflecting upon it, my mind surrenders. ||6||

In plain words

The one who only talks about it is just describing words.

But the one who truly understands recognizes it with quiet, natural ease.

Seeing it and turning it over in my heart, my mind gave in — and gladly.

Talking about something and truly understanding it are different things; real understanding comes with quiet ease.
The deeper layer

The great distinction: jin kahiaa tin kahan vakhaaniaa (talkers only elaborate talk) versus jin boojhiaa tin sahj pachhaaniaa (the one who gets it recognizes it with sahj, natural ease). Knowing-about is not knowing. Daykh beechaar mayraa man maaniaa — seeing and reflecting, the mind maaniaa: surrendered, aligned (root of mannai). Understanding, not argument, does the work.

A Question to Sit With

What's something you only understood for real once you experienced it, not just heard about it?
