The True One Lives in Who Loves the Teaching

ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਚੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਾਉ ॥

The True Lord abides within the body of that Gurmukh who enshrines love for Him.

Without the Naam, none obtain their own place.

The Beloved Lord King is dedicated to love.

nadar karay taa boojhai naa-o. ||5||
If He bestows His Glance of Grace, then we realize His Name. ||5||

In plain words

The True One lives right inside the body of the one who faces the teaching with love.

Without the Name, no one finds their own true home.

The Beloved, the great One, is devoted to love itself.

When grace looks your way, then you come to know the Name.

The True One lives right inside the one who loves the teaching — and the Beloved is devoted to love itself.
The deeper layer

This one says the True One lives inside anyone who faces the teaching with love.

Tan meh saacho gurmukh bhaa-o — "the True One is in the body of the gurmukh who loves." A gurmukh is someone who faces the Guru's teaching. Bhaa-o is love. The One is close, inside, not far away.

Naam binaa naahee nij thaa-o — "without the Name, there is no place of one's own." Nij thaa-o means your own true home. Guru Nanak often speaks of arriving at your own ground like this.

Then the most beautiful line: paraym paraa-in pareetam raa-o — "the Beloved King is devoted to love." Love is the One's very nature.

Think of a grandparent whose whole face lights up when you walk in. Love is simply who they are.

And it all rests on nadar, a look of grace. When grace looks our way, we come to know the Name.

A Question to Sit With

If the deepest thing in the universe were love itself, how might that change the way you treat people?
