Getting lost in Maya's glitter is one big tangle.
The mind that faces only itself grows knotted and hard to be around.
But serving the true teaching, the tangle comes undone.
In the nectar of the Name, a lasting peace stays with you always.
This one says that being all about yourself ties you in knots, and serving the teaching unties them.
The verse calls the grip of Maya a janjaalaa. Maya is the glitter of things we cling to. A janjaalaa is a tangle, a net.
The manmukh is the mind that faces only itself. The verse uses very hard words for it: kucheel, khuchhit, bikraalaa, meaning filthy, cursed and dreadful. In plain words, the mind becomes knotted and hard to be around. These words describe a state a person can be freed from. They never condemn a person.
Think of headphone wires stuffed in a pocket. The more you yank, the tighter the knot.
Then the relief. Satgur sayvay chookai janjaalaa — "serving the True Guru, the tangle ends." The net simply comes undone.
Amrit naam sadaa sukh naalaa — "with the nectar of the Name, peace is always with you." Amrit means nectar, the sweetest drink there is. That peace stays.
When you feel knotted up inside, what helps the knots actually come undone?
