The Restless Mind Is Filled by the One, Not by More

ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਅਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
sach karnee abh antar sayvaa.
True are my actions, and deep within my being, I serve Him.
ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸਿਆ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ॥੩॥
man tariptaasi-aa alakh abhayvaa. ||3||
My mind is satisfied by the Inscrutable, Mysterious Lord. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My doing turns true, and deep inside me I quietly serve. My restless mind is finally full and satisfied by the One — the One who can’t be traced or fully figured out.

The restless mind is finally full — satisfied by the One, not by getting more.
The deeper layer

This one says the restless mind is filled by the One, not by getting more.

Sach karnee abh antar sayvaa — "true actions, and service deep inside." Sach karnee means doing what is true. Sayvaa is service. Here it is also worship inside the heart.

Man tariptaasi-aa alakh abhayvaa — "the mind is satisfied by the One who can't be traced or fathomed." Alakh means beyond seeing. Abhayvaa means beyond figuring out.

This is the opposite of the endless wanting in the songs before this one. Think of how a new toy feels great for a day, and then you want the next one. That kind of hunger is never full.

Real satisfaction comes from within, not from getting more.

A Question to Sit With

What actually fills you up inside, when getting more things doesn’t?
