bhoolo raavan mugaDh achayt.
Raawan was deluded, foolish and unwise.
lootee lankaa sees samayt.
Sri Lanka was plundered, and he lost his head.
garab ga-i-aa bin satgur hayt. ||5||
He indulged in ego, and lacked the love of the True Guru. ||5||

Another tale tells of Raavan, clever but heedless, who lost everything he had gathered. His pride carried him off because he never let real awe and love take root in him.
Cleverness without real awe and love cannot hold a person up.
Raavan of the Ramayana: mighty but proud. Lootee lankaa sees samayt — the plunder and beheading are set aside; we keep only the loss that pride brings, and the diagnosis: bin satgur hayt — lacking the love of the teaching. The point is the missing love, not the gore.
A Question to Sit With
What matters more in the long run — being clever, or being kind and humble?
