Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, contemplate this Ambrosial Nectar.

The Glorious Greatness of the Naam is bestowed according to the Pleasure of Your Will. ||7||

In plain words

Wonder and thanks to the One this very life belongs to! Turning the teaching’s Word over and over, I drink in something sweet and life-giving. And the greatness of the Name — You give it as it pleases You, freely.

Turning the Word over, I drink something sweet and life-giving — and the Name is given freely, by grace.
The deeper layer

Everything we have, even this life, belongs to the One, and the Name comes as a free gift.

Vaahu vaahu tis ka-o jis kaa ih jee-o — wow to the One who owns this very life. Gur sabdee math amrit pee-o — churning the Guru's Word, I drink amrit, sweet, life-giving nectar. Think of churning cream until butter comes. Turning the Word over and over in your heart brings out its sweetness.

Naam vadaa-ee tudh bhaanai dee-o — the greatness of the Name is given as it pleases You. Bhaanaa is the One's will. The Name is received as a gift. Nobody earns it.

A Question to Sit With

What is something precious you were simply given, that you could never have earned?
