When my actions come from a true and honest place, the teaching clears away my confusion and worry. Then my attention rests, steady and calm, in the home of the Fearless One — where nothing can frighten me.
This one says: live truly, and you can rest in a place where nothing can scare you.
Sach karnee gur bharam chukhaavai — for those whose deeds are true, the Guru clears away doubt. Sach karnee means true living. It is not just believing true things. It is acting from them, and Guru Nanak values that above belief alone. Bharam is the fog of doubt and second-guessing.
Nirbha-o kai ghar taarhee laavai — they fix their attention in the home of the Fearless One. Nirbhau, the Fearless, is one of the names of the One in the Mool Mantar, the opening lines of the Guru Granth Sahib. Taarhee laavai means to rest your attention there, steady and still.
Resting in that fearless home is how fear loses its grip. Think of how a strange noise at night shrinks when you remember the whole family is home. Wonder at something vast quietly pushes out the smaller fears.
What is a worry that gets smaller when you remember something much bigger than it?
