There are people who speak what is real and true, with not the tiniest drop of falseness in it. Turned toward the teaching, they move in step with the flow of existence, and they rest, unattached and free, sheltered in what is true.
A person turned toward the teaching speaks truly, moves with the flow, and holds things lightly.
Guru Nanak draws a picture of a gurmukh, a person turned toward the teaching. He uses three quick strokes.
First, boleh saach mithi-aa nahee raa-ee — they speak truth, with not even a grain of falseness. A raa-ee is a tiny mustard seed.
Second, chaaleh gurmukh hukam rajaa-ee — they walk in hukam, the flow of existence. Picture a kayak going with the river instead of fighting it.
Third, raheh ateet sachay sarnaa-ee — they stay ateet, unattached, holding things lightly. They rest in the sarnaa-ee, the shelter, of the True One.
Truthful words, a life in step with the flow, and a light, free grip. Put together, they make one portrait.
What would it feel like to move through a day without grabbing tightly at anything?
