In plain words

The person in whose heart the True One truly lives — being near them, you too grow turned toward the teaching. And so, gently, the true Name washes the heart clean.

Keep company with clear hearts, and the true Name quietly washes your own heart clean.
The deeper layer

The people you keep close help shape who you become.

Jin kai man vasi-aa sach so-ee — some people have the True One living in their minds. Tin kee sangat gurmukh ho-ee — in their company, you too turn toward the teaching. Sikhs treasure sangat, good company, because of this shaping power. Think of how you pick up your best friend's laugh or favorite words without even trying.

The last line is tender. Naanak saach naam mal kho-ee — the true Name washes off the mal, the grime of ego and forgetting. It is not a hard scrub, and never a punishment. It is the way clean water simply rinses.

With this the shabad closes, and the washing is offered fresh to anyone who comes near.

A Question to Sit With

Who in your life makes you feel more like your best self just by being near them?
