One Oneness in All; Forgetting Leaves the Ego Wandering

ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਰਵੈ ॥
sarab jee-aa meh ayko ravai.
Among all beings, the One Lord is pervading.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਭਵੈ ॥੫॥
manmukh ahaNkaaree fir joonee bhavai. ||5||
The eogtistical, self-willed manmukhs wander in reincarnation. ||5||

In plain words

One and the same Oneness moves and lives inside every single being. When the ego forgets this and thinks itself all alone and separate, it wanders and wanders, never quite at home.

One Oneness lives in everyone; forgetting that is what leaves the ego wandering, never home.
The deeper layer

The same One lives in everyone. Forgetting that is what leaves us wandering, never quite home.

Sarab jee-aa meh ayko ravai — the One moves through all beings. This is Ik Onkar, the single Oneness present in everyone.

The other side is the manmukh ahankaaree. A manmukh is a person facing their own wants instead of the Guru. Ahankaar means pride. Such a person fir joonee bhavai, keeps wandering from life to life. The same words also describe the restlessness of a self that has forgotten it belongs to the whole. Think of one player who forgets they are part of a team, and keeps running around alone.

The cure is simply remembering. The same One is in you and in everyone.

A Question to Sit With

If the same Oneness is inside every person you meet, how might that change the way you treat them?
