The Truly Rich Are the Ones Who Really Listen

ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਹਿ ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਜੁਗ ਮਾਹੀ ॥

Those who listen to the Lord's Sermon are seen to be the wealthy people in this world.
ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਸਭਿ ਨਿਵਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਾਹੀ ॥
tin ka-o sabh niveh an-din pooj karaahee.
Everyone bows down to them, and adores them, night and day.

sehjay gun raveh saachay man maahee. ||7||
They intuitively savor the Glories of the True Lord within their minds. ||7||

In plain words

The people who really listen to the story of the One — those are the truly rich ones, though the world may not see it at first. There is a quiet dignity around them that others sense and honor. Without any effort, the goodness of the True just keeps welling up inside them.

The truly rich are the ones who really listen; their quiet dignity is felt without a word.
The deeper layer

This one says that the truly rich are the ones who really listen.

Har kathaa suneh say Dhanvant diseh jug maahee — those who listen to the story of the One are seen as the wealthy ones in this world. This listening is suniai, deep listening, not just hearing sounds. Think of the difference between music playing in a store and a song you listen to with your eyes closed.

Tin ka-o sabh niveh — everyone bows to them. This is not about chasing status. It is the natural dignity people sense in a settled soul.

Sehjay gun raveh saachay man maahee — with ease they enjoy the goodness of the True One inside their minds. Sahaj means easy, natural, unforced. Real wealth here is inward and quiet. It draws respect without asking for it.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone you respect not for what they have, but for how they carry themselves?
