Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The Creator made the whole universe and holds its beginning and end. There is nothing and no one apart from that One — everything is the same underneath. Only a few, turned toward the teaching, truly come to see it.
This one says there is only the One, and the heart that faces the teaching sees it.
The close lands on oneness itself. Aapay kartaa sarisat siraj jin go-ee — the Creator alone shaped the universe and will one day fold it up again. The One holds its whole story, start to end.
Tis bin doojaa avar na ko-ee — without that One, there is no other at all. This is Ik, "One": not one god among many, but no second at all.
Naanak gurmukh boojhai ko-ee — only a rare heart that faces the teaching truly understands this. Think of many waves on the ocean. They look separate, but they are all the same water. This is the whole shabad's cure for the three moods: there was only ever the One. Nanak's name seals it.
What would change in how you treat people and things if you really felt everything was connected as one?
