The World's Fog Can't Grip a Teaching-Anchored Heart

ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
ih jag bharam bhulaa-i-aa moh thag-ulee paa-ay.
This world is deluded by doubt - it has taken the drug of emotional attachment.
Maya does not draw near those who have met with the True Guru. ||6||

In plain words

This whole world can wander in a fog, half-tricked by the pull of grasping and attachment. But for the ones who have truly met the true teacher, that fog can't get a grip — it simply doesn't come near them.

The world's fog of grasping can't get a grip on a heart anchored in the teaching.
The deeper layer

A heart held by the teaching cannot be fooled by the world's fog.

Ih jag bharam bhulaa-i-aa moh thag-ulee paa-ay — this world is lost in bharam, a fog of doubt. It has swallowed the thag-ulee of moh. A thag-ulee is a trickster's sleeping potion. Moh is grasping attachment, holding on too tight.

Jinaa satgur bhayti-aa tin nayrh na bhitai maa-ay — those who have met the true Guru, maa-i-aa does not come near them. Maa-i-aa is the pull of the world, the fog of grasping. The world does not disappear for them. Their heart is anchored in the teaching, so it cannot be tricked.

Think of a boat with a strong anchor in a storm. The waves still come, but the boat stays put. Meeting the Guru is that anchor.

A Question to Sit With

What keeps you anchored and clear-headed when everything around you feels confusing or hyped-up?
