Carry the Name as Your Travel-Supplies

ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਜਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਖਰਚੁ ਲੀਆ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
man karhalaa mayray saajnaa har kharach lee-aa pat paa-ay.
O camel-like mind, my good friend, take the supplies of the Lord's Name, and obtain honor.
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਨਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਲਇਆ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੯॥
har dargeh painaa-i-aa har aap la-i-aa gal laa-ay. ||9||
In the Court of the Lord, you shall be robed with honor, and the Lord Himself shall embrace you. ||9||

In plain words

O camel-mind, my good friend, gather up the Name as the supplies for your journey, and you'll travel with honor. At journey's end you're welcomed and dressed in robes of honor, and the One itself gathers you into an embrace.

Carry the Name as your travel-supplies, and at journey's end the One gathers you into an embrace.
The deeper layer

Man karhalaa mayray saajnaa — "my good friend" camel-mind. The camel-and-desert image returns beautifully as provisioning for a journey: har kharach lee-aa — take the Name as your kharach, travel-supplies. What you carry inwardly is what sustains the crossing. Har dargeh painaa-i-aa — at the journey's end, one is robed with honor. And the song's opening image returns, fulfilled: har aap la-i-aa gal laa-ay — "the One itself takes you into an embrace" — the same gal laa-ay (embrace) that opened Pauri 0. The wandering has become a homecoming.

A Question to Sit With

What "supplies" — inner qualities — do you most want to carry with you through your whole life?
