In plain words

O my dear beloved mind, look for good company. Look for people who are turning toward the teaching too, and the true Guru who guides them.

Sit with them and remember the One together. That remembrance becomes a friend who walks the whole road with you -- and never leaves.

Good company plants a remembrance in you that becomes a friend for the whole journey.
The deeper layer

This one says: find good company, and the One will walk with you the whole way.

Guru Ram Das speaks to the mind as man karhalaa, a mind like a camel that wanders off. And he calls it mayray pi-aari-aa, "my dear beloved." He is not scolding the mind. He is coaxing it home with love.

Satsangat means the true company. It is the gathering of people turned toward the One. It is one of the big, weight-bearing ideas of Sikhi.

Then comes a clear promise. Har har chalai tayrai naal — "the Lord, Har, Har, goes along with you." Har is a name for the One.

Think of moving to a new town. Most of your stuff gets left behind in boxes. But a best friend who comes along makes anywhere feel like home.

Everything else you collect gets left behind someday. This is the one Companion who stays with you through every doorway.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the people who make it easier for you to be your best self?
