In plain words

The treasure is deep inside you, O wandering mind. Yet you keep roaming around outside, unsure, hunting for it everywhere but home.

When you meet the whole and perfect teaching, you discover your very Best Friend was right beside you the entire time.

You keep searching outside for a Best Friend who has been right beside you all along.
The deeper layer

This one says the treasure you are hunting for is already inside you.

Antar niDhaan means "the treasure within." It sums up the whole set of verses one more time.

Now it comes with an ache: bharam bhaveh baahar bhaal, "in doubt you wander outside, searching." Bharam is doubt, the fog that hides what is close.

Then comes the surprise: har sajan laDh-rhaa naal — "the Lord, the dear Friend, is found right with you." A sajan is a best friend, a dear companion.

It is like the musk deer. It roams the forest chasing a sweet smell, never knowing the smell comes from itself. Or think of hunting all over for your phone while it is in your pocket.

Meeting the pooraa Guru, the perfect and whole Guru, is what lifts the doubt. Then the nearness can finally be seen.

A Question to Sit With

What good thing might already be close to you that you keep looking far away for?
