Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The teaching turns its kind gaze on everyone alike; and in the heart it enters, it plants the living Name.
For a heart like that, this unbroken song of praise is food itself, the thing that nourishes. Where the teaching is whole and true, that is what feeds you.
This one says the Guru's kind look falls on everyone.
Gur subh darisat sabh oopar karee — the Guru turns a kind gaze upon all. Darisat means look, gaze. It is even-handed, not saved for a few. Think of the sun: it shines on every yard on the street.
Where that gaze lands, the mantar takes root. Mantar here means the living Name, planted in the heart like a seed.
Then comes a striking picture that answers the Rahao, the pause line at the center. Akhand keertan tin bhojan chooraa — unbroken praise is their food. Akhand means unbroken. Bhojan means food. This is the kind of song that truly feeds you, here and hereafter. Guru Arjan signs it as Nanak: this is the mark of the pooraa, the perfect and whole, true Guru.
What is something you take in every day that truly feeds you -- not your body, but your spirit?
