Sikhism·Raag Gauree·Shabad 271
Verse 5 of 9

It Eats, Loves, and Slips Back Into the One

ਸਹਜੇ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਭਾਉ ॥
sehjay bhojan sehjay bhaa-o.
In peace and poise they eat; in peace and poise they love.
ਸਹਜੇ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਸਗਲ ਦੁਰਾਉ ॥
sehjay miti-o sagal duraa-o.
The illusion of duality is easily and totally removed.
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਆ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
sehjay ho-aa saaDhoo sang.
They naturally join the Saadh Sangat, the Society of the Holy.
ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਿਸੰਗੁ ॥੪॥
sahj mili-o paarbarahm nisang. ||4||
In peace and poise, they meet and merge with the Supreme Lord God. ||4||

In plain words

In peace they eat; in peace they love. Quietly, the sense of being cut off from everything just dissolves.

Easily they find themselves among good company; easily, without any strain, they merge back into the One.

A settled heart eats, loves, and gathers with good people all in ease -- and slips back into the One without any strain.
The deeper layer

This one says that in easy peace, a person eats, loves, and slips back into the One.

The list of ease goes on. Sehjay bhojan sehjay bhaa-o — in ease they eat, in ease they love.

Then comes the big dissolving. Sehjay miti-o sagal duraa-o — easily, all "two-ness" is wiped away. That is the felt split between yourself and everything else.

Sehjay ho-aa saaDhoo sang — naturally they come into the company of the good. Sahj mili-o paarbarahm nisang — in ease they meet the Supreme One, nisang, without holding back and with nothing in between.

Think of a wave slipping back into the ocean. It does not need force. It only needs to remember it was never separate.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt so at ease with people that the space between you seemed to disappear?
