Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਜੁਰੈ ਤ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਮੀਤੁ ॥

When someone attaches himself to the Lord, then everyone is his friend.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਜੁਰੈ ਤ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਚੀਤੁ ॥
har si-o jurai ta nihchal cheet.
When someone attaches himself to the Lord, then his consciousness is steady.

In plain words

When someone joins their heart to the One, suddenly everyone feels like a friend.

When someone joins their heart to the One, their mind grows steady, worry can't take hold, and they come through free and clear.

Join your heart to the One, and everyone becomes a friend, your mind steadies, and worry loses its grip.
The deeper layer

When your heart is joined to the One, good things follow, one after another.

Har si-o jurai means "when someone joins with the One." Every line of this verse starts the same way, like a row of dominoes set off by one push. First comes sabh ko meet: everyone becomes a friend. Then nihchal cheet: the mind grows steady. Then kaarhhaa, gnawing worry, cannot get a grip. Last comes nistaaraa, being carried safely across.

Look closely at the first gift. Feeling close to the One makes everyone feel like a friend. When you know the same One lives in all people, others start to feel like family. All of this leads into the pause line that comes next, with its one simple instruction.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel deeply connected and calm, how does the way you see other people change?
