Nothing else is of any use to you. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O my mind, join yourself to the One. Nothing else will finally do what you are really longing for.

Join your heart to the One -- of everything you could hold onto, only this meets your deepest need.
The deeper layer

This is the heart of the whole shabad: join your mind to the One.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad, the line the rest grows from. Har si-o jor — join yourself to the One. Kaaj tuhaarai naahee hor — nothing else will serve your true purpose.

This does not mean the rest of life is worthless. Friends, school, games and family all matter. It is about what comes first. Think of a phone full of apps. The apps are fine, but without the charger, none of them run for long. Of all the things you could give your heart to, only the One meets your deepest need. Every other line of the shabad branches out from this one.

A Question to Sit With

Of all the things you chase, which one do you think would actually satisfy the deepest?
