Truly, no one is only clever and no one is only foolish; no one is simply weak and no one simply strong.
Each is drawn to whatever they are drawn to, in their own time. And the one who becomes a true servant, Nanak says, is the one grace has touched.
No one is simply better or worse than anyone else.
Naa ko chatur naahee ko moorhaa — no one is clever, and no one is foolish. Naa ko heen naahee ko sooraa — no one is weak, and no one is a hero. Guru Arjan wipes away the labels we use to rank each other. Top of the class or bottom, fastest or slowest — no label is the whole story.
Why? Jit ko laa-i-aa tit hee laagaa — each person is drawn where the One draws them. This is the Hukam, the flow of existence. So there is no reason for pride, and no reason to look down on anyone. That includes looking down on yourself.
The last line says the true servant is not the one who tried hardest. It is jis bhaagaa, the one whom grace has touched. The shabad ends with everyone standing on the same level ground.
If no one is truly better or worse than anyone else, how does that change how you treat people -- and yourself?
