Holding the One Gives You a Place to Rest

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਓ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
gur kai bachan Dhi-aa-i-o mohi naa-o.
Through the Guru's Word, I meditate on the Name.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parsaad mohi mili-aa thaa-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By Guru's Grace, I have obtained a place of rest. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Because the teaching reached my heart, I hold the Name in my mind — the living presence of the One in everything. And when I became open, grace gave me a place to rest, a home inside myself where I finally feel settled.

Holding the One in mind gives you a place inside yourself where you can finally rest.
The deeper layer

This is the Rahao — the pause-line that is the hymn's hinge and its refrain. Dhi-aa-i-o naam is meditation on Naam, holding the divine reality in awareness. Thaao means "place, resting-spot" — the sense of arriving somewhere you belong. Per project lens, grace (gur parsaad) is not earned but received when one becomes open. The Rahao states the whole shabad in miniature: the Word leads to the Name leads to rest.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you go, inside yourself, when you need to feel settled and at home?
